Day 236-Beer 236 Cameron's Rye Pale Ale, Cameron's Brewing Co. Oakville Ontario

Tonight's brew is a Rye Pale Ale. Rye beer refers to beers in which some rye malt is substituted for barley malts. In the U.S. this style generally has a big hop presence to the point the resemble India Pale  Ale's (IPA's) and American Pale Ales (APA's) hence many will use the abbreviation RPA. For other examples see Feb.1 Terrapin RPA (3.8) and April 12 Red's Rye Pale Ale (3.7).

This is a strong beer at 6.6%ABV. According to the advertisement it is made of a combination of seven different floral British and pungent American hops, some which are added in a dry hopping process. This involves adding hops directly to the fermented beer in the fermenter. The hops are well supported by a large malt bill of five character malts with a generous portion of rye which contributes to mouth feel and Cameron’s Rye Pale Ale’s own special character.
It poured a murky orange/copper colour. The head settle to leave a nice thin layer of sticky lacing across the surface of the brew. The aroma has hints of caramel malt with lots of floral/citrus hops and pine with a hint of pepper. The flavour is caramel malt and candied sugar up front with lots of grapefruit and pine resin to finish. It is a very good brew and if not for the hints of rye and pepper it would fall right into the APA category. Overall very good and very drinkable 3.9 out of 5
